Winter Snacks

Today I want to tell you about two popular winter snacks in Iran. During the winter, whenever you walk in the streets of Iranian cities, you will see hawkers selling cooked beetroot (Laboo) and cooked fava beans (Baghali). On a winter night, you can buy and eat warm and tasty snacks after a walk in the cold weather.

If you have a sweet tooth, you can order hot and sweet cooked beetroot, and if you want to taste a sour, salty, and slightly spicy flavor, you can eat cooked warm fava beans. You can cook these hot and delicious winter snacks easily and quickly at home.

To cook Laboo or beetroot, first wash the beetroot and take their skin after that slice them. Then you can steam or boil them. To boil with water, put a pot on the gas flame add beetroots in it, and pour a little water on them, turn the flame, and also cover the pot door. Let it cook beetroot sliced.

Traditionally, Iranian people eat cooked beetroot with Kashk. Wow! I really recommend you eat this combination together, this is a beautiful and velvety mixture.

To cook Baghali or fava beans, wash the beans and put a pot on the gas flame add beans in it, and pour water over the beans. The point is that to cook the beans better, don’t add salt first. Turn on the flame and let it boil after 15 minutes add salt to the pot and cover the door pot to cook beans with salt.

When the beans are cooked for serving, serve cooked beans in a suitable bowl and add vinegar, and salt. If you like you can add pepper and angelica powder for better taste.

Your snacks are ready and you can serve them to your friends or eat these hot snacks in a warm family time.

Bon Appetite!
